Exciting new opportunity for TRS and Tractor Pull NZ

tpnz-image1Tractor Pulling is known as the world’s most powerful motorsport, due to the impressive multi engined modified pulling tractors frequently seen overseas. In typical style the Americans have taken this to a new level and produce machines in excess of 15,000hp!  All tractors are competing for the elusive “full pull” of 100mtrs.  From multi engine beasts bearing little resemblance to a tractor right through to the standard tractor straight off the farm, tractor pulling has something for everyone interested in horsepower.

Tractor Pull NZ was formed in 2009 to establish tractor pulling in New Zealand as a dynamic and exciting form of motor sport. Tractor Pull NZ focuses on weight transfer tractor pulling where weight is progressively added until the pulling tractor loses forward momentum. The largest and most accessible class is for standard tractors, virtually pulled straight out of the paddock and into competition. This is where the motto ‘Pull on Sunday, Plough on Monday’ derives from. The other main classes are the pre-1985 machine class and the modified class which is where the enthusiasts get a chance to show off their modified tractors.

Recently an exciting new opportunity arose for TRS Tyre & Wheel to become the national sponsor for Tractor Pull NZ for the 2011 / 2012 seasons for which they jumped at the chance. TRS had previously supported Tractor Pull New Zealand at competitions in the South Island both in Waimumu (Gore) and recently in Christchurch at Lincoln Fieldays and found both to be highly successful events.

All the tractive power in the world is of no use without some way to transfer it to the ground. As the point of contact with the soil, it is the performance of the tyre which determines how much of the engine power is converted into drawbar pull. The multitudes of tyre options and choices break down to four basic areas - the type of tyre, the tyre size, the number of tyres, and the operating inflation pressure. This is where TRS Tyre and Wheel is the ideal sponsor for Tractor Pull NZ with their specialist knowledge and experience in the tyre and wheel industry.

tpnz-image2Tractor Pull NZ holds four main events annually starting with Egmont A&P Show, Central District Field Days and South Island Field Days, all building to the National Final at the National Fieldays in Mystery Creek each June.  Each event will see knowledgeable staff representing TRS on hand to offer advice and technical skills to the competitors. Traditionally kiwis and tractors go hand-in-hand and with Tractor Pull NZ and TRS Tyre and Wheel together exciting things are bound to happen.

It is said the history of Tractor Pulling started around the 1900's when farming machines were pulled by horses and farmers would boast about how strong their horses were. To prove this for their neighbours, a barn door was removed and laid flat on the ground the horse was then hooked up to it. One by one people stepped on the door until the horse was no longer able to drag it, the horse that pulled the most people the greatest distance was the winner.

TRS Tyre & Wheel are the largest importer and distributor of tyres and wheels for agricultural and all off highway applications and the exclusive NZ distributor for Michelin and BKT agricultural tyres. TRS can offer customer solutions from 5 distribution centres nationally and an extensive reseller network. To discuss your specific tyre and wheel requirements, call the TRS team on 0800 336 334.
