The NEW Michelin Omnibib, Enhancing Farm Productivity

Micheiln OmnibibThe latest Agricultural tyre design from Michelin has arrived in New Zealand and is set to bring a host of advantages to kiwi farmers.

The Michelin Omnibib tyre (designed for 70-180hp tractors) is faster on the road and in the field, enhances fuel efficiency, protects soil while creating fewer ruts, boasts a 13% longer tread life that’s its main rival, handles loads up to 14% higher than a standard tyre can and increases grip on all surfaces.

With its wider footprint and ability to operate when inflated to 0.2 bar lower than its competitors, the Michelin Omnibib saves fuel, works faster and features the best tread life in its class. Not only that but it can carry heavier loads without damaging the soil, provides a more comfortable ride and enhances vehicle handling.

Faster Work and Fuels Savings, a Virtuous Circle

With the new Michelin Omnibib 70 series, faster work and a 2% improvement in fuel efficiency go hand in hand, because the tyre’s redesigned footprint reduces wheel slip and creates shallower ruts. In addition the Michelin Omnibib is the only 70 series tyre that operates efficiently when inflated to a pressure 12% (0.2bar) lower than its rivals.

Surface work such as fertilising and spraying can be performed at higher speed. Because the work takes less time, productivity is enhanced and fuel efficiency is increased by 2%.

Shallower Ruts

To help farmers protect their crops, Michelin has also equipped Omnibib with rounded shoulders and a lug shape that has already demonstrated its effectiveness on the Michelin Multibib tyres. The lugs do not sink as deeply into the ground, thereby protecting the soil and offering excellent self-cleaning capacity.

Enhanced Grip

During fieldwork, tyres rotate more than necessary to move forward, known as wheel slip. A high degree of slip causes tyres to spin, which wastes energy and damages the soil. The Michelin Omnibib delivers a major breakthrough by reducing wheel slip. Excess slip wastes energy and damages the soil, while loss of grip puts strain on the engine, thereby increasing the amount of fuel used. Moreover, when their wheels slip, tractors move more slowly.

The Best Tread Life in the 70 Series Market

The Michelin Omnibib series tyre outlasts its main rival by 13%.  Michelin used a special rubber compound and robust lugs for its new tyre. They retain their wear profile throughout the tyre’s life thanks to the redesigned shape, ensuring even wear and significantly extending the tyre’s lifespan and performance over time.

Carry up to 14% Heavier Loads

The Michelin Omnibib 70 series can carry:

  • Up to 14% more than a standard tyre inflated at the same pressure. That makes it easier to maneuver, especially in confined areas.
  • 3% more than other 70 series tyres inflated to the same pressure.

Drive Comfort and Road Handling

A key technological challenge was enhancing driver comfort without negatively impacting road handling. Michelin Omnibib is the only 70 series tyre that is flexible enough to ensure a comfortable ride without adversely affecting the tractor’s road handling. Michelin’s engineers designed a structure that moves up and down flexibly while maintaining rigidity when it moves side to side. The Michelin Omnibib is the only 70 series tyre with a ‘D’ speed rating (up to 65 kph) when inflated to only 1.6 bar.

Omnibib initially launched to European markets, the tyre is already arriving as factory fitment on many makes of new tractors. The NZ launch will not only ensure full support for the product locally but will also allow farmers considering replacement tyres to enjoy the many benefits Omnibib has to offer.

In an environment where farm input, cattle feed and fuel costs are soaring, the Michelin Omnibib helps farmers to reduce their outlays and streamline their operations. The Michelin Omnibib sets a new performance benchmark for 70 series tyres.
